Accessibility

Awaaz should never make speaking harder by making the interface hard to use. This is what we do today, and what we know still needs work.

What we build in

  • Text contrast that meets or exceeds WCAG AA on all main screens.
  • Visible keyboard focus and full keyboard navigation on the website.
  • Colour is never the only signal: every status has an icon and a label.
  • Large tap targets, at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • A text size setting in the app, and layouts that hold up at larger sizes.
  • Reduced motion: Awaaz follows your device setting, and the app has its own switch.
  • Instructions you can read and replay before recording, with no time limits.
  • Proper right-to-left layout and Nastaliq for Urdu.

Known gaps

  • Jungle mode (for children) has on-screen text in English only.
  • Listening to articles and practice examples uses your device’s own voices; many devices have no Urdu voice.
  • We have not yet tested the main flows with people who use screen readers or switch access. We plan to, and will publish what we learn.
