How Awaaz works, in plain language.

Six steps from choosing what you want to work on to deciding what comes next. Each one can be tried right now.

1

Choose your goals

Tell Awaaz why you are here: exploring certain sounds, practising particular words, understanding a concern, or following a therapist’s activities.

  • Choices help personalise the experience.
  • They never set a diagnosis or a label on your profile.

2

Complete the speech check

Follow a short set of spoken prompts. The screen always says when to listen, when to speak, and when a recording is being sent for scoring.

  • A microphone test comes first.
  • Each prompt has its own screen and the record button never moves.

3

Review what Awaaz found

My Speech Profile shows each supported sound with what was observed, how many recordings it was based on, and any recording-quality problems.

  • Uncertainty is shown, not hidden.
  • Sounds the check cannot assess are listed too.

4

Choose suitable activities

My Practice Plan proposes activities linked to what was observed and to your goals. You or your therapist can change them.

  • Each suggestion shows its reason.
  • Self-chosen, suggested and therapist-assigned activities are labelled differently.

5

Practise and review

Short sessions: listen, try the word, try again if you like, and a quick reflection. Your history builds up on your device.

  • Feedback is encouraging and never says “wrong”.
  • Completing an activity is not treated as mastering a sound.

6

Decide what comes next

Awaaz suggests another activity, a review, a later check-in, or talking to a professional when that seems sensible.

  • Check-ins are compared only when the conditions make it fair.
  • You can stop, pause or change direction at any time.

What happens to one recording

From the moment you tap the microphone to the feedback on your screen.

  1. Record

Your browser records a few seconds. Noise suppression is off so short consonants are not erased.

  2. Check the recording

Silence, very short clips and very quiet audio are caught on your device first.

  3. Score

The clip goes to the scoring service, which turns it into speech sounds and compares them with the target word.

  4. Discard

The scoring service keeps nothing. Your device keeps the clip only if you choose to save it.

  5. Explain

You see what came through as expected, what the system heard instead, or that it couldn’t tell.

Questions people ask

Do I have to do the speech check?

No. You can go straight to practice with goals you choose yourself, or with a plan from your therapist.

What if I make a mistake while recording?

Record the prompt again. Only the attempt you keep is used.

Can I practise in English and Urdu?

Yes. Each language has its own check, practice words and history.

What if the scoring service is unavailable?

Awaaz tells you before you record. Your practice history and listening activities still work.
