The whole Awaaz interface is available in Urdu. Scoring Urdu speech is harder: the recognition model Awaaz uses was trained mostly on adult speech in other languages, so we test each Urdu sound before we score it.

Scored today

ش, ت, ب, گ and پ, in single words and short phrases such as شیر, توتا, بلی, گائے, بارش, تتلی and پیارا پرندہ.

Known limits

  • ت cannot yet be told apart from د, so a د sound would still count as expected.
  • ق is almost always heard as ک, so it is not scored.
  • Aspirated sounds such as چھ were affected by speaking speed, so they are not scored.
  • Vowels are not assessed in Urdu.

Different Urdu accents and regional pronunciations have not been evaluated separately. We will publish what we learn on Our Science.
